Always wanted to make the Angry Birds Red Bird out of marzipan? Well this is your lucky day then: I am posting a tutorial just for you! In 10 simple steps, you will be the proud owner of your very own marzipan Red Bird. And of course feel free to ask me stuff or show off your work in the comments section.
- Red marzipan*
- White marzipan*
- Black marzipan*
- Yellow marzipan*
- A knife
- A toothpick
*: You can replace the marzipan by fondant or even marshmallow fondant if you feel like it.
Step 1: Start off with the red marzipan. Knead it until it’s nice and workable. Use your hands to form a ball in the preferred size of your red bird. You can also decide to make one of those bad ass huge red birds of course.
Step 3: Attach the two feathers to the top of his head (the small part to the front of his face (since it’s a ball up until this step, you get to chose what will be the front)). Attach the one in the back first, use a toothpick if you like for placement, and then add the second one in front overlapping the first.
Step 4: Angry red birds always have a cute white belly. Roll a small ball of white marzipan and flatten it to a really flat circle using your fingers. Wrap this around the bottom-front part of your red bird.
Step 5: It’s tail-making time! Using some black marzipan, roll out a small worm and cut it in three parts. Make sure one end is cut off bluntly and roll the other end to a smooth point. Attach the three smooth points together using your fingers.
Step 6: Attach the tail to the back of your bird using a toothpick to gently insert it into it’s backside (aww!). You can make this step more creepy by softly whispering things like ‘Come here, little birdy!’ while doing this.
Step 7: Time to make some angry eyes. Roll two small balls of white marzipan and flatten them to disks with your hands. Roll two even more tiny balls of black marzipan and put them on top of your white disks using a toothpick. Eyebrows are an important part of what makes them look so very angry, so let’s not forget those. Roll out a small marzipan worm and cut it in two. Flatten the worms with your hands and squeeze them together on one side (this is where they go together in the middle). Attach them to the eyes. Should I have taken more pictures of this step? Probably!
Step 8: Attach the eyes, just above your white belly (on the bird, not your own belly of course). This bird is starting to look pretty pissed right about now.
Step 9: Let’s add a beak as well. Get some pretty yellow marzipan and roll it to a ball. Now, using your fingers, roll this ball into a cone. If you then cut off the tip of this cone using a knife you have one part of the beak in your hands! Do this again and attach the tiny cones together. Squeeze the beak so that it’s more pointy and attach it to the bird with the flat side (the flat side is where you cut off the cone with your knife)
Step 10: Now that your first bird is done, you probably want to make some more. This can be done by repeating steps 1-9 in a near-infinite loop. Just keep repeating until you run out of marzipan or patience! Whichever comes first (bet it’s the patience)
